Ni’s Adventure @ Kaoshiung/Tainan #1

Day 11
The day I’m leaving Taipei.
Day started after another and probably the last time of local breakfast.

From traveling on Taipei Metro to purchasing tickets for High-Speed to transiting on High-Speed to finding/changing to Kaoshiung Metro… I did it on my own! Thank God!

Final city for this trip: Kaoshiung
My second time here.
But first time traveling from station to hotel as previously JL came to pick us up. This time she didn’t managed to come over with me as she had to stay in Taipei with JM.

With the map and direction signs, I managed to find the hotel I will be staying in! I’m sooooooo proud of myself! Haha!
All without asking anyone!

Quite happy with the hotel and its location - definitely better than Taipei’s. Less than 10mins walk from the station.
Located at one of the levels in one of an apartment-building and there a food street just below. Nearby are shops and shopping malls just a stone throw away.

As I take some time to rest in the room, I also scanned through brochures that I collected for places to visit for the rest of the day.
Then I realized there are actually so many places to visit in Kaoshiung but due to time, I can only select one or two.

Putting into consideration distance, time and view, I chose “Sizihwan“ as first destination and probably the last for the day.

Hehe! Another accomplishment!
Upon reaching Sizihwan station, I successfully found the right bus-stop and took their local bus!

Quite crowded. Seaview.
May be due to the beautiful pictures of “Qixing Lake” captured in my head, the view here didn’t really catch my attention.
But one thing I like was their big “stones”.
Spent a while there as wanted to see the contrast of day and evening.

How I came was how I went back... all on my own!
Walked around a bit before I
grabbed some snack back.
Spent the early night watching Taiwan entertainment and also arranging with friends for the meetup next day.

Day 12
A raining morning started at Kaoshoung.

The day started with having breakfast with MD, a friend JL introduced to me when MD came to work in Singapore two years ago.
Ever since she went back Kaoshiung, we still maintained contact thus this time knowing that I’m coming, she was excited and really took effort in wanting to me - even having to travel far on her motorbike in early morning, raining morning too.

Nice seeing her again after good two years.
It was a short but fruitful time spent. Gotta know more of her happenings etc too.
Thoughtfully, she also got me a card and even returned me the S$50 which I blessed her with when she was in Singapore. She also gave me homegrown banana.

After I departed from her, I left to next destination - Tainan.
Took Kaoshiung Metro train before I changed to local train to Tainan.
Hehe! I’m so proud of myself!

The highlight at Tainan was supposed to meet Friend XB and Teammate SM but due to some uncontactable-issues, I only managed to meet Friend XB for lunch.
She is also not my “direct-friend”, gotta know her through Teammate SM where she came for SOT last year.

I waited quite a while at the station for another of mine, SB.

Simple fellowship. Great catchup.
Glad to know things are working out well for her.

Unbelievable!
Complete set meal (pics below)... per pax only S$15!

After which, she biked me around to look for Tainan local delight, mi jian - that was my FIRST experience on a bike in Taiwan! Woohoo!

We couldn’t find in the malls and due to the rain and as she needs to go off for work, I decided to forgo the mi jian and then we bid goodbye.
I so much wanted to go find on my own, to travel to their local “old street” but due to the discomfort of my mozzie bites, I decided to end the day earlier.

Grabbed my dinner at the food street below my hotel.
For the second time, I’m drinking this!
Hugh size! Satisfied big time! And most importantly, cheap! Less than SG $2!

Ni’s Adventure @ Taipei #2

Day 9
Started my morning with my must-have breakfast.

Next historical place: Sun Yat Sen Memorial Hall

Walked a bit, took some photos and left as another building from afar attracted me, Taipei 101.

Accomplished another mission which also another “wish” of mine for this trip, to visit Starbucks at one of the levels in Taipei 101.
Really thank God for 3G service as after I cant find the Starbucks in the shopping mall building, I then went online to check and to find the way of getting in.

Successful! I’m in - 35th storey of Taipei 101 office building!!!
I spent a while there enjoying my cuppa coffee over the beautiful scenery.

I then headed to Taipei City Hall areas to see see walk walk look look before I left to Ximending again. Since wasn't rushing, decided to take my time to walk around so I think somehow I managed to comb the entire Ximending, the north part the south the east the west. Hehe!

I also went to get the snack I like... for the last time. Yummmmmy!

Met up with Jill who finished her work.
Caught up over drinks before we met JL and JM for dinner at an “unique” place, Toilet-Themed Restaurant.
Another “wish” of mine to visit/eat here as long heard about it and 2years ago due to time and don’t really know where so we didn’t.

The food were average actually.
Guess just the concept and all made it interesting.

But still, I'm glad I went.

Day 10
My last full day in Taipei.
Met Jill who brought along her adorable handsome nephew, Aaron.

First stop for the day: Shifen

We had a quick local lunch which happened to be the place that sheltered us for quite a while due to the heavy rain.

The highlight at Shifen will definitely be the “Sky Lantern”.
We almost gave up and left but thank God the rain stopped on time and we managed to uturn back to have our fly.

Glad we did.
Always get to see the experience from TV and friends, now I finally had my hands on it. We had our wishes on it. Photos taken. Off it went.

Enjoyable trip.

Only regret was we didn’t get to walk further around the place or to find the waterfall. So… Shifen, I’ll be back!

After sending Aaron home, Jill and I chilled at another Starbucks near her place. Seem like all the Starbucks in Taiwan are big.

We met up JL and JM for the “Last Dinner” in Taipei.,
This time, Korean BBQ.
Good place. Nice food. Great fellowship.

The night ended with a short walk around the popular town… to digest too. Haha!
Then a short time together before the night ended.

Throughout my trip in Taipei, I really appreciate the thoughts and love of JL and JM who almost every nights took time and effort to meet me for dinner. Something that brought warmth to my heart as they don’t have to since they can well spend on their own etc but they gave their precious nights to me.
Not just that, for JL - almost everyday she dropped me messages to find out where was I, was I coping ok and how’s my day etc.
