cLaSsRoOm & BeHaViOuRs MaNaGeMeNt MoDuLe

DiScIpLiNe – is not punishment, is guidance; is learning! Is also an ongoing process for helping children develop competence, self-control & acceptance behaviours.

Our words can build or break someone” .. this doesn't only applied to adults but young children as well. In one of the articles my lecturer gave us - “As adults we need to examine our verbal and behavioral communications. We often use familiar words and phrases that carry negative or double meanings. We need to think about how children interpret our words and actions. Are the messages received by children the ones that we mean to send?”

Negative statements to POSTIVE!

You children are so noisy and restless that I am cancelling recess!”
to ... “ Let's use our indoor voice”
=) Mr Lecturer commented both are different issues and shouldn't be used together

Mouths shut, do your work, and don't look at your friend's paper!”
to ... “Would you like to do your work quietly”

Sit in that time-out chair until you can learn to get along”
to ... “Please sit here and think about what happened. You can come back later”
=)Time-out is a punishment, not a guidance technique

Don't run” to ... “Walk”
=) Many times we just tell children what not to do, it will be more effective by telling them what to do instead

Children learn best in an atmosphere that fosters confidence, success and risk taking.
I need to think before I speak! I am a role-model to my children! =)
